Why The College Football Playoff Committee Doesn't Always Get It Right

Every year we see teams that get left out of the College Football Playoffs and it leaves us scratching our heads. After looking closer at the last few years I have come to a conclusion about this playoff committee. They want safe picks and not a team that could make them look bad. Let's take a closer look at what I mean.

Everyone has thought the committee is biased to SEC teams when these rankings are released. In a way that is true, but you must understand the whole story. The reason the committee loves SEC teams as they usually put on a good show and rarely get blown out in a game. The committee does not want to see another game like they did when Clemson blew the doors off the Ohio State Buckeyes. It made the committee look bad and they learned from that debacle. They want to play it safe when they choose the Final Four Teams.

As a whole, the College Football Playoff Committee does an excellent job, but every year is getting tougher. This year could be easy or tougher depending on the final two games of the season. No matter what the one thing we have gathered from the committee is safe bets are what they will do. Sticking their necks out for a pick isn't likely to happen this year either.

What Can Penn State Do To Impress The Committee?

When the rankings were announced Penn State found themselves rated 8th which is not a bad position right now. The first thing that Penn State needs is some help and the best way to get that would be Ohio State to  continue to win. This would eliminate Michigan from the playoff picture. If Michigan wins out Penn State has no chance of making the playoffs. Besides Ohio State winning they need Louisville and Washington to struggle in their remaining games. Not likely, but Penn State fans can always hope.

The other thing the Nittany Lions need is to play in the Big Ten Championship game which still is possible. A dominating performance will go a long way in swaying the committee. For Penn State there best chance is have some teams to lose and continue to win. If Ohio State loses to Michigan the Penn State Nittany Lions will just be playing in a good bowl game. They just wont be playing for a National Championship. Penn State has come a long way this season and have many things to be proud of and who knows they may make the playoffs.

Could Penn State Get Screwed By The College Football Playoff System?

Just a few weeks back nobody was talking about Penn State Football program, but now that has taken a 360 degree turn. The Nittany Lions upset the Ohio State Buckeyes and everything has changed for this program. Penn State has slowly moved up the rankings and could find themselves in the Big Ten Championship game, but will that be enough for the College Football Playoff Committee.

This could get very confusing and upsetting for Penn State fans before its all over. In the scenario that Ohio State wins there last two games just like Penn State must do the Nittany Lions win the tiebreaker. By beating the Buckeyes they would go to the Big Ten Championship game. Seems pretty simple doesn't it, but this is College Football and it is not that simple. We are talking about politics and that could put the Nittany Lions on the outside looking in. Let's look closer at this and how Penn State might be left out.

The College Football Playoff committee has said it values winning your conference championship, but even if Penn State does there record won't be as good as the Buckeyes. Ohio State will have wins over Wisconsin, Michigan, and Oklahoma on their resume. This means even though Penn State beat the Buckeyes they could find themselves not in the playoff format. Is this fair? Of course not, but we are talking about college football and sometimes the committee see's something everyone else does not.

Joe Paterno Statue Removed By Penn State

Now for me this comes as a shock, but Penn State has removed the Joe Paterno statue from campus. This shows how much pressure that Penn State was under regarding the statue. They university has decided to leave his name on the library, but his statue will not longer be displayed. This also shows that they thought Joe Paterno should have done more than he did and it was dividing the university.

Removing the statue was probably best as it let's the university move on quicker. It is a shame it had to come to this, but Penn State had to do something as it was becoming a flaming point for the University. Hopefully, by removing the statue now the University, community, and students can look forward to the new school year. By leaving the name on the library it still gives Paterno credit for all he did do for the University. It's sad it ended this way, but there really was no choice.

Should Joe Paterno's Statue Be Removed?

Joe Paterno's legacy has taken a real hit and now many people are calling for his statue to be removed. Should Penn State remove the statue? That is an interesting question on many different fronts. Many people will tell you no, but just as many will tell you yes it needs to go. It reminds many people of the guy who could have done more to stop the child abuse. That hurt goes deep in many people and it will not go away anytime soon. Of course we never got to hear Joe Paterno's side of the story, so all we can do is guess what he did or did not do.

Some people have the opposite opinion and they feel Joe Paterno's contribution should be applauded. He has done a lot for the University and taking it down would show disrespect for his accomplishments. In the end, this is a hard decision, but over time I think the statue will stay and not be removed. It pits two different opinions about the situation and if the trustees remove it someone will not be happy. Doing nothing is the best answer right now and do not look for that to change anytime soon.

Joe Paterno's Legacy Is Gone After Freeh Report

Joe Paterno built a legacy at Penn State that I thought was second to none, but after that Freeh Report it is left to a pile of rumble. No matter what anyone thinks Joe Paterno knew or had some insight to what was going on and he did very little about it. It seems he was protecting his friend and that is very sad indeed. We will never hear joe Paterno's side and the truth is most people do not want to hear it anyways. There is no excuse for protecting a guy who was sexually abusing kids.

Paterno's legacy is gone and never will be back. He ruin it himself because he was not willing to do the right thing to his friend. Paterno should have been a stand-up guy and do the right thing, but he never did and that is a shame. In the end, Joe Paterno will be remembered for what he did not do in the sexual abuse case more then all the wins and good men he delivered from the university. It is a shame it ended this way, but he can only blame himself for what has happened to his legacy.

Joe Pa Saying Goodbye To A Legend

With the death of Joe Paterno College Football has lost a legendary figure of it's sport. Paterno coached being accountable for things and in his final days Joe Paterno was still upbeat. What will the world write about Joe Paterno after he is gone many years? I know that he will always be considered one of the greatest coaches of all-time. No matter the circumstances that surrounded his firing he was a hell of a football coach. Ask any player who ever played for him and they will tell you countless stories on how he touched their lives.

Maybe the way Joe Paterno should be best remembered is through all the players lives he has touched. He has had some great players that have done great things on and off the field. People tend to think Joe Paterno was all about football. Yes, it was a big part of his life, but it was much more than that for him. He was proud of how many players went on to do great things with their lives. Not every player is an NFL player and Paterno understood this very well.

He taught about life after football and why your studies was so important. Maybe JoePa's biggest mark was not in college football but how many lives he changed for the better.

Penn State Sexual Abuse Case Will We Ever Know The Whole Truth

The Penn State sexual abuse case will have no winners and finding out the whole truth may never ever come which is sad. One good thing came out yesterday as two Penn State officials can be tried on charges of lying to a grand jury about an allegation of child sex abuse against former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, a judge ruled Friday. Getting the truth is something that would be nice, but in reality I doubt if we will ever know the truth.

It seems everyone knew about the sexual abuse from the top to former coach Joe Paterno, but no one came forward like they should have when it was alleged. It is a shame that you have so many adults and very few were willing to step forward to protect these kids. In the end your innocent until proven guilty, but from the evidence being presented it looks like many people could see jail time in this sad case.

Penn State Falls To Nebraska 17-14 As Healing Process Starts

Penn State has had a rough week and they could not overcome Rex Burkhead and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Burkhead ran for 121 yards and a touchdown for Nebraska (8-2, 4-2) before the Nittany Lions scored 14 points on two second-half touchdown runs by Stephfon Green. It was a tough day for the Nittany Lions who played without their coach Joe Paterno who was fired this week. It had to be tough on the players to get ready for the game, but they never quit and played hard throughout the game.

A touching moment before the game can when Nebraska and Penn State players should solidarity on the field before the game. It was a great thing that the Nebraska team to do, as it showed that the game was just a side note to the horrible things that have been going on at Penn State, that very few seemed to know about. Many people thought they should have cancelled the game, but that would not have been fair to the fans or the players who had nothing to do with it. In the end, it was a good game and Penn State should be proud of their football team and their fans for keeping it classy all the way through.

Could This Be The End For Joe Paterno?

According to various media outlets the University of Penn State is looking for an exit plan for Joe Paterno to leave the school. This in my opinion is totally unfair the Joe Paterno. What has his crime been? He reported the allegations when he was alerted about them. He did what was asked of him. Now for him to be ushered out because he did not do more is stupid.

This has been a three year investigation and Paterno has cooperated with the investigation. The funny about the whole story is Paterno did what he was suppose to and now that is not good enough. Yes, it is a shame what has happen to the kids, and what they went through. You cannot expect a college football coach to follow all his coaches around to make sure they do the right things. He cannot be expected to follow his players around either to make sure they stay out of trouble.

To taint Joe Paterno's legacy because he did nothing wrong is wrong in it's own right. Pushing him out the door for doing what he was suppose to do is wrong. I guess we just do not do the right things anymore when it comes to people who do things that right way. That is a shame as Joe Paterno deserved much better treatment.

Penn State Ex Coach Others Charged In Child Sex Case Today

Former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, 67 was arrested and accused of molesting eight boys, and two school administrators were charged with failing to tell police when a witness told them he saw a boy being sexually assaulted in the shower. This is bad and it seems this investigation has been going on for quite some time at Penn State. If the allegations are true that is very sad. Joe Paterno is not implicated and when Paterno first learned of one report of abuse, he immediately reported it to Tim Curley athletic director.

I hope these allegations are not true, but some have called Jerry Sandusky a child predator. If this is true I wonder how many kids are afraid to come forward to tell their story. If it happen at Penn State I am sure it has happened at other places as well. There needs to be more watch over coaches in the future, so we do not have this problem anymore. It is a very sad case with a bleak outlook it seems.
