College Football Selection Committee Has Tough Call This Season

With the results, yesterday from the Conference Championship games the selection committee has a tough day ahead of itself. There are a number of teams that want in and the reality is some are going to be disappointed and mad. It'supposed to be the best four teams, but that can sometimes be a hard thing to judge. Let's look at the contenders and whose in and who may be sitting home.

Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson are all locks for the playoffs. All three teams did enough to get in and should have no issues making it to the playoffs. Now after that these teams, all make it interesting. Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, UCF all have a case why they should be included.

UCF has been undefeated for over two years and will get some consideration, but in the end, for them, I think they will not make it. The strength of schedule really hurts this team. Georgia has a strong case as they only lost to Alabama and LSU the SEC Championship was a close one and they could have beaten Alabama. Ohio State won the Big Ten Championship and Oklahoma won the Big12. Both Oklahoma and Ohio State both have a loss that probably shouldn't have happened.

In the end, you want the four best teams and out of the remaining ones, it's easy to see Georgia is the best team. I look for Georgia even with two losses to make it in even though they did not win their conference. If Georgia does not make it look for Oklahoma to sneak in. No matter who makes it some teams will be crying foul once again.

What Can Penn State Do To Impress The Committee?

When the rankings were announced Penn State found themselves rated 8th which is not a bad position right now. The first thing that Penn State needs is some help and the best way to get that would be Ohio State to  continue to win. This would eliminate Michigan from the playoff picture. If Michigan wins out Penn State has no chance of making the playoffs. Besides Ohio State winning they need Louisville and Washington to struggle in their remaining games. Not likely, but Penn State fans can always hope.

The other thing the Nittany Lions need is to play in the Big Ten Championship game which still is possible. A dominating performance will go a long way in swaying the committee. For Penn State there best chance is have some teams to lose and continue to win. If Ohio State loses to Michigan the Penn State Nittany Lions will just be playing in a good bowl game. They just wont be playing for a National Championship. Penn State has come a long way this season and have many things to be proud of and who knows they may make the playoffs.

Michigan Can Still Make A Big Impact In College Football

Many things have been written about the tough gut wrenching loss to Michigan State so I won't rehash what everyone already knows about the loss. Michigan in the big picture still has a lot to play for this season. No one thought they would be as good as they are this season. Michigan could still find themselves in the Big Ten Championship game with a little luck and if they win out. You never know what could happen in this crazy college football season so far.
Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

The loss could actually help Michigan by giving them even more incentive to win out this season. Michigan played well except for the final play that no one will ever forget anytime soon. Michigan was everything advertised and Jim Harbaugh has them playing well and all is not lost for Michigan and their fans this season. They could still possibly give Ohio State there first loss of the season at the BIG HOUSE! Michigan just needs to stay focused and play well rest of the season.
Jim Harbaugh will keep them playing well and there will won't be a let down anytime soon. Yes, it was a tough loss, but they will be back and ready to go when they play again. Michigan football is back and that is not a good thing for teams they play with Jim Harbaugh at the helm.

Do We Need To Expand The College Football Playoff Already?

Now that the first College Football Playoffs is in the books there is talk about expanding it already. There are many reasons people want to do this, but will it work for everyone involved. Let's look deeper into expanding it and why it really is not a good idea right now. First of all ESPN has a contract with it so that would have to be changed and I do not see ESPN wanting to change that anytime soon. The second major problem is the student athlete already puts in enough time and making them miss more classes just makes no sense.

Expanding it right now would mean more games and that will not help anyone right now.
No matter how many teams you expand it to someone will get left out and complaints will come. This is why for the time being four will have to suffice. Teams and their fans will always think they deserve to be in the playoffs. I will admit that TCU got hosed this season, but many years back so did Boise State. No system is perfect and no matter how many teams we add someone will complain. Right now it is the best we got right now, so enjoy the college football playoffs for what it's worth.

Can The Dallas Cowboys Overcome Latest Problems

The Dallas Cowboys have had a roller coaster season so far with plenty of ups and downs. The latest problem involved Josh Brent being arrested for killing a teammate while driving drunk. Killed was practice squad member Jerry Brown. The Dallas Cowboys did not need this as they are in a battle for a playoff spot, but just another problem they must deal with. The Dallas Cowboys will play with heavy hearts, but many times a tragedy can pull a team together even more than before.

The Dallas Cowboys will have a lot of their mind Sunday, but through it all they know they must continue to fight over all the issues. Losing a teammate is hard and the Dallas Cowboys must face that reality Sunday. Can they overcome it and continue their drive to the playoffs. I think they can as most teams win games like this for their fallen players. Many times tragedies such as this can carry a team all season long. Only time will tell how it will have an impact on the Dallas Cowboys. The one thing we do know the Dallas Cowboys did not need this to happen.

Does The Dallas Cowboys Still Have A Chance At The Playoffs?

It has been a up and down season for Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys so far in 2012. This does not mean you should count them out just yet. The Dallas Cowboys beat the Cleveland Browns in overtime by a score of 23-20. Yes, it was not really very impressive, but a win is a win. People never judge you on how you got the end result as long as you got it. The Dallas Cowboys head into Thanksgiving week at 5-5 and a chance to improve on that Thanksgiving Day when they play the Redskins.

The Cowboys have a tough upcoming schedule, so it will not be easy to make the playoffs, but you never know. Another loss could really hurt their chances, so they need to remain perfect to make the playoffs. Everyone knows the Dallas Cowboys are talented, but they just never are able to produce on the football field like they should. If they did we would not be talking about making the playoffs, but winning a division title.

The Dallas Cowboys are a team that sometimes is hard to figure out that's for sure. At times, they look like they can beat anyone, and other times they cannot beat the worse teams in the NFL. If they ever could come into a season dedicated to winning they would be very good. I don't know why it is such a struggle for them, but with all the egos that could have something to do with it. Right now they will be happy to sneak into the playoffs and so will Cowboy fans as well.
