Nebraska Cornhuskers Loaded And Ready For Big Ten

Big Ten play will begin in a little while and Nebraska cannot wait to tackle their tough schedule. When I heard that Nebraska Cornhuskers were heading into the Big Ten many different things went through my thought process. I was thinking are they crazy, but after thinking through everything Tom Osborne made a great move that will benefit the school and the football program. In the Big 12 Nebraska was not talked about like they had been in the past. This gives them a chance to be the big dog on campus once again. Many people do not think it will happen, but here is why it will and fairly quickly.

One of the biggest advantages the Cornhuskers will have is now a chance to recruit from a wider base of players than ever before. Nebraska has always been able to recruit, but joining the Big Ten will help them even more. Not that they really needed any help to begin with.

The Big 12 plays a pro style fast pace game and to be honest Nebraska does not have those kinds of athletes. They rather play smash mouth football and the Big 12 was getting away from that and they knew this, so they made a move at the right time. The Big Ten on the other hand does have some pro style offenses, but for the most part they are run first pass second just like Nebraska likes it. They probably know how to play that style of football better than anyone.

Going into the Big Ten is a natural progression as they will be able to do what they love best and that is to run, run, and run some more. They do not have to worry about too many teams scoring tons of points as the Big Ten offenses are not as complex, as you see in the Big 12. This was a perfect chance for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Tom Osborne knew it. Will it be a cake walk for the Huskers? By no means, but they are on a more level playing field, and they get to run the type of offense Husker fans have seen for years. It will be a learning curve for the first year, but after that watch out!

Paul Menard Saves Fuel Captures Brickyard 400 Sunday

Paul Menard has never got the respect that he has wanted, but he understands why. Menard has a guaranteed sponsor with his dad owning Menards home improvement chain through the Midwest. He with the guaranteed sponsor Paul has still struggled to find victory lane until today. Menard's crew chief Slugger Labbe gambled on fuel mileage and it paid off for him and his team as Menard took the Brickyard 400. Jeff Gordon took second place, as he could not catch Menard at the end.

Plaxico Burress Lands With The J-E-T-S!

Now everyone had Plaxico Burress going to a New York team, but it was the Giants not the New York Jets. Other teams showed interest as well, but Burress decided on $3.017 million fully guaranteed from the Jets. He was scheduled to go to the 49ers for an interview, but that was scrapped after the Jets called and made their offer to him.

Burress is fresh out of jail and has not played for almost two years. Earlier in the week the Jets signed Santonio Holmes and now with Burress it looks like Braylon Edwards is the odd man out of New York. Burress is a big play receiver who will help the Jets out a lot if he can regain his old form quickly. It will be interesting to see how long it takes him to get back up to speed. No matter what the Jets have a great set of bookend wide outs for another Super Bowl run.

Are The Brewers Losing To Many Talented Players For The Sake Of Winning Now

When do you say enough is enough when it comes to trading your young talent away.Sometimes you have to wonder If Brewers GM Doug Melvin is trading away too much of the Brewers talent. In 2010 and 2011, the Brewers have lost a lot of talented players all for the sake of winning it in 2011. On December 6, 2010 the Brewers traded Brett Lawrie to Toronto for Shaun Marcum. Lawrie is a top talent and will be in the Majors in the not too distant future. Shaun Marcum has pitched well, so you cannot fault that trade at all.

December 19, 2010 the Brewers traded Jake Odorizzi (minors), Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar and Jeremy Jeffress to Kansas City for Yuniesky Betancourt, Zack Greinke and cash. Now Greinke has not been great by any means, and Betancourt has struggled all season long for the most part. Losing Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar in my opinion was huge and so far this trade has been about even. The talent the Brewers gave away in this trade was too much in my opinion.

On March 27, 2011 Brewers traded Cutter Dykstra (minors) and cash to the Washington Nationals. Received Nyjer Morgan. This was one of the trades that the Brewers did well on. Morgan has been more than the Brewers could have hoped for. July 12, 2011 Brewers traded two players to be named to the New York Mets and received Francisco Rodriguez and cash. This was another trade that was good all dependent on who the Brewers have to give back to the Mets. This was an interesting trade, but the question will be what happens next year and down the road.

Now today the Brewers acquired Jerry Hairston Jr who is 36 years old from the Washington Nationals. Who did the Brewers give up in return for this journeyman Erik Komatsu, 23, was batting .294 in 93 games with Double-A Huntsville this season. He was taken in the eighth round of the 2008 draft, and was the Brewers' minor league player of the year last season. Now this is just too talent to lose all for the sake of winning right now when there are no guarantees. GM Doug Melvin has gambled everything on this season, and if it does not work he has really hurt the Brewers for years to come. There is always a price to pay when you trade away talent. I hope the Brewers do not pay a price later down the road.
