Rays Stay Hot With 9-0 Game 1 Rout Of Rangers

It looks like the late season surge of the Tampa Bay Rays was no fluke as they stayed hot with a easy 9-0 win over the Texas Rangers in Game 1. Kelly Shoppach homered twice and drove in five runs, Johnny Damon also homered and Tampa Bay dominated the whole way. The Rays started a 22-year old rookie pitcher named Matt Moore. He was able to keep the Rangers in check and the Rays bats came alive early and often for them.

Texas will have to hope for better luck in Game 2 as they do not want to go down 2-0 in this series against the Rays. Tampa Bay plays well at home, so getting the series even right now should be foremost on the minds of the Rangers. It will be tough as the Rays will be starting James Shields another tough Rays pitcher.

Francona And Boston Part Ways Best For Both Sides

There comes a time when you have to know when it is time to move on. After two World Series championships Terry Francona decided it was best for him to move on. There were many problems with the Red Sox and we will probably not hear them all, but when a manager leaves that tells you a lot.

Boston has a collection of players with egos and from what I seen of them they did not listen to their manager as much as they had in the past. Yes, injuries played a part in the Red Sox missing the playoffs, but so did not giving it your all. There were times it seemed the Red Sox players did not give their best effort.

With Terry Francona gone it will be interesting to see who is brought in to manage them. It is a high-profile job, but it also comes with very high expectations. Will the Red Sox promote from within or go outside the organization. Either way they lost a good man in Terry Francona.

Blame The Red Sox Collapse On The Players No One Else

It is a somber mood in Red Sox Nation today as their Red Sox's are trying to make sense of what happen to them. The Red Sox had a nine game lead and looked like a lock for the playoffs, but it is the Tampa Bay Rays who made it and not them. The Red Sox went 6-18 after that and did not win consecutive games at any point in the month after building a nine game lead. The only people you can blame for this epic collapse is the players.

The Red Sox players are the ones out on the field making the plays or not making the plays. There really is no excuse for playing as bad as they did at times. I will admit I have never seen such a epic collapse like this from such a talented team. This will stick with Red Sox Nation for a very long time. Many people want to point fingers and those fingers better be pointed at the players because that is where the blame needs to be.

Are The Fans And Florida Ready For Their New Manager Ozzie Guillen

It didn't take the Florida Marlins or Ozzie Guillen long to agree on a contract as he was introduced as the next Florida Marlins manager. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria wanted to make a big splash with the opening of a new stadium 2012 season, and what better way than hiring a manager like Ozzie Guillen.

No matter what anyone thinks about Ozzie Guillen he has proven to be a winner and that is what he will bring to the Florida Marlins. It will be interesting to see how he handles Hanley Ramirez and some of his antics. Ozzie is a guy who pulls no punches and will tell Ramirez the way it is going to me.

Florida has a goods manager in Guillen, but are they ready for all that comes with hiring him. It will be interesting to see how Guillen does in Florida as the expectations are not as high as they are in Chicago year after year. Yes, Florida wants to win, but they will give Guillen time to make the Marlins a championship caliber team. Should be an interesting ride for Marlins fans.

It's Time To Make Changes In Miami As Dolphins Continue To Slide

The Miami Dolphins continue to struggle and making changes is something that they should consider right now. Coach Tony Sparano in my opinion is the first person that needs to be shown the door. Sparano has not been able to get the job done. I do not know if the talent level is just not good enough, but making a change at coach is the first step the Dolphins need to make.

Chad Henne has not played that bad at quarterback this season. His numbers are not bad except his high number of sacks worry me. I think keeping him at quarterback for a few more weeks is a good idea. He needs others around to help him make plays if the Dolphins want to win. Reggie Bush who was signed by the Dolphins actually has less rushing yards than Chad Henne. How can you win with a stat like that.

The defense has also been a big disappointment as well. Giving up huge chunks of yardage in crucial situations have really hurt the Dolphins. This maybe a season that the Dolphins need to find out who wants to play football and who just wants to collect a paycheck. If this is going to be a lost season than make the changes now so 2012 will be one Dolphin fans can be proud of.

Will We See Peyton Manning This Season?

Indianapolis Colts fans are not use to an 0-2 start, and as the losses mount up the question will be is Peyton Manning going to play in 2011. If the Colts continue to lose and no improvement is made the Colts may just shut down Manning for the year. Once the Colts drop out of playoff contention why take a chance with Manning. The Colts brought in Kerry Collins because they knew Peyton Manning could miss most of the season.

The chances of us seeing Manning goes down with ever loss. I doubt if we will see Peyton Manning this season unless the Colts have a chance to make the playoffs. The Colts won't risk his health just to win a few games. The way it looks right now we will probably not see Peyton Manning suit up and that is disappointing for the league and Colts fans everywhere.

NBA Delays Opening Camps And Pre-Season, Is Regular Season Next

It looks like both sides are digging in for a long stalemate and of course the fans are the ones getting screwed in it all. The NBA announced the delay of training camps and preseason, but the bigger question is could fans lose some of the their NBA season as well.

Both sides do not seem to want to budge and until that happens it will be a stalemate for both sides. This could drag on for sometime and that is a shame. The fans want to watch NBA basketball, but for now it will not be around anytime soon. Hopefully, the NBA and it's players will look at the bigger picture and get some kind of deal worked out. The way it looks that could be a long time away.

Is The Big 12 Dead?

It seems just when we think the Big 12 is dead it comes back to life like a cat with nine lives. If you have been following the Big 12 you know it's been a rollercoaster of sorts for the colleges in it and their fans as well. Is it time to put the Big 12 out to pasture?

The truth is the only thing keeping the Big 12 together right now is Oklahoma and Texas. If one of those two schools leave you might as well shut down the Big 12 for good. An option would be to merge with another conference. Maybe the Big East would be something they may want to consider right now.

I know unless the Big 12 does something fast they will be put out to pasture. That is a shame as it was a good conference for a very long time. It seems though they have lost their way and when that happens their life is the next thing to go.

Manning Leads Giants Over Mistake Prone Rams 28-16

The New York Giants will take any kind of win they can get early in the season. Last night they were able to beat the mistake prone St. Louis Rams by a score of 28-16. The Giants Michael Boley scoop up a lateral and scored, while Eli Manning threw two touchdown passes for the New York Giants. Manning completed 18 of 29 passes for 200 yards, two touchdown and an interception. A win is a win no matter how ugly it maybe.

For the Rams they had just too many mistakes and when you do that you will not win to many games in the NFL. Sam Bradford was 22 of 46 for 331 yards, but the lateral mistake was costly for the Rams. In all four big mistakes doomed the Rams in this game. Unless they cut down on their mistakes they are not going to beat too many teams this coming season.

Triple H And Cena Wins At Night Of Champions

The latest WWE Pay per view was an interesting one to say the least. It was called Night Of Champions as some titles changed hands. Let's get right too it. Kelly Kelly defeated Beth Phoenix again which I will admit was a surprise to me. I guess we can no longer doubt what Kelly can do inside the ring.

Mark Henry was able to overpower a game Randy Orton to take the his first World Heavyweight Championship of his career. It will be interesting to see how long Henry holds onto it. John Cena defeated Albert Del Rio which was something I think we all seen coming. Triple H defeated C.M. Punk in a wild match that seen many different things. I think we knew Triple H was not going to lose this one and his title of COO to anyone else.

Sheamus gave Christian a boot which we all wanted to see. The Miz and R-Truth wined like they always have after they lost. Air Boom continues their winning ways by defending the tag titles. Ted DiBiase defeated Cody Rhoades and Dolph Zigger continued to win as well. Not a bad pay per view, but nothing really earth shattering that's for sure.

Justin Verlander Roaring Tiger This Season

For a little while there was a question who was the best pitcher in the American League, but that has all been sorted out. Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander is head and shoulders better than everyone else. Verlander has a 24-5 record and has won 12 straight decisions. He is one of the main reasons the Detroit Tigers are in the conversation about teams that could be in the World Series. He became the first pitcher to win 12 straight starts since Minnesota's Johan Santana in 2004, according to STATS LLC. Verlander has a 2.28 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 87 innings over his streak.

Verlander has the most wins in a major league season since Arizona's Randy Johnson in 2002. With another victory, he would become the winningest pitcher in a season since Oakland's Bob Welch went 27-6 in 1990. What's next for the Tiger's ace? He would like to play the first playoff series in front of the home fans. The way he is pitching he may play a lot of games in front of the home fans.

Inside The NFL Week 2 What We Have Seen Is Shocking

Well week two has arrived Inside The NFL and many different things have shocked this blogger that's for sure. Let's start with those loveable Detroit Lions that we all use to make fun of. The Lions are now 2-0 after dismantling the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 48-3. The Indianapolis Colts played without Peyton Manning for a second week in a row and they looked like a team that may not win until Manning gets back.

We also have Tom Brady who always seems to perform well no matter who he is playing against. The Patriots took care of the mistake prone San Diego Chargers once again. The Texans and Saints continue to roll along as well. Cam Newton has had back to back 400 yard passing games, but have two losses to show for it though.

As we enter week three teams that are 0-2 need a win. The Colts and Dolphins are two teams that better get better real quick. If not they may find themselves looking at some changes and quickly. In Miami the most likely change will be their coach. While in Indianapolis they must look to replace Peyton Manning, especially if he is not ready anytime soon. Week three should be very interesting and you never know what it may bring.

Tony Romo Plays Hurt And Shut's His Critics Up

Last week everyone blamed Tony Romo for the Cowboys opening season loss, but those critics cannot have nothing but good things to say about Romo now. Playing with a fractured rib Romo was able to rally the Dallas Cowboys to a 27-24 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers on the road. Romo hit Jesse Holley on a 77-yard completion on the Cowboys’ first play of overtime that set up Dan Bailey’s winning 19-yard field goal. Just a week ago Romo was the goat, but now for awhile this should shut-up a few of his critics who questioned him and his ability to make plays.

Romo completed 20 of 33 passes for 345 yards and was in a lot of pain after the game. The San Francisco 49ers have to feel they let one get away. This is a game they probably should have won, but give the Cowboys and Romo credit for fighting back and getting the win in overtime. It's wins like this that can define your season. The next thing the Cowboys have to worry about is Romo's health for his next game.

Lexi Thompson Youngest To Win An LPGA Event At 16

Lexi Thompson does not seem to mind the spotlight much as she captured the Navistar LPGA Classic Presented by Monaco RV by five strokes. At just 16 years old she became the youngest to win an LPGA event on tour. It will be interesting to see how she does the rest of her career. Many times when players win at an early age they struggle to win again. I guess we will have to wait and see how it plays out for her though.

Pittsburgh And Syracuse Added To ACC

Well the ACC just got bigger and much better as they have added two more teams. The ACC announced Sunday that its council of presidents unanimously voted to accept the two schools from the Big East. The move increases the ACC’s membership to 14 and sends the Big East scrambling to replace two of its cornerstone programs. The Big East’s exit fee is $5 million, and schools wanting to leave must provide 27 months’ notice.

My take on the move is the ACC got much stronger and the Big East will be hurt by this move. The problem is we have two many teams leaving conferences and jumping to other conferences. The NCAA is going to eventually have to step in because it is not fair to the fans of these teams or the sport as a whole. Jumping from one conference to another for the best deal is not the way to do it. Something has to change or a team will move again when they find a better deal.

Boise State And Kellen Moore Roll Over Toledo 40-15

The one thing you can say about Boise State and their quarterback Kellen Moore they are very consistent. Last night, a upstart Toledo team was hoping for an upset, but Kellen More quickly dashed any hopes that was going to happen Friday Night. Moore threw for 455 yards and 5 touchdowns connecting on 32 of 42 passes help stop Toledo by a score of 40-15. The running game was not going well so Boise State took to the air and Moore did another fine job like he always done.

Moore will be in the Heisman Trophy running again this year and well deserved. His record as quarterback of Boise State has been just amazing. It's a shame that Boise State and Moore does not get more credit for what they have accomplished the last few years. I guess that's how it is in college football. Maybe the ultimate level of respect Boise State has gained is not a lot of teams want to schedule them anymore. This could be the year Boise State makes the National Championship you never know.

Did Paul Menard Cost Jeff Gordon A Victory?

It seems that this story about Paul Menard and if he did or did not intentionally wreck will not go away. In fact Nascar is going to look into it and see if there is any truth to the rumors that have been swirling about the incident. My take on all this if Menard did do it I doubt if it was the first time a driver has done it, and it will not be the last.

Now if Nascar does find out that Menard did do it on purpose than this could open up a big hornet's nest for Nascar. It means that races could be affected by drivers who wreck to bring out cautions which is something Nascar does not need right now. I think in the end nothing will come of it and Nascar will just let it blow over. If they find something I do not even know if they would want to release it to the public anyways.

The NBA Better Settle This Lockout Soon Or I Will Go Crazy

The NBA and their lockout are really getting on my last nerve and they are pissing me off. As a blogger, I always look forward to the off-season, trades, and player movement. What have I gotten this off-season is jerked around and I am not happy about it. The NBA season must commence on time or as a blogger, I will miss out on so much.

I will not be able see Lebron James and Dwayne Wade in press conferences complaining how everyone hates them. How the world is a better place every time the Heat loses. Okay Wade and James I will admit it I really am not fond of either one of you. With a lockout though how can I write about all your screw-ups. Then we have Shaq who has retired and has teamed-up with Charles Barkley to do color commentary on games. Now that is something that is must-see television.

Another thing I will miss is all the NBA players and meltdowns they have during the season. Ron Artest has changed his name to whatever, and how about all those fantastic finishes I will miss because of the NBA lockout. Okay David Stern I am putting this at your lap. I expect you to do something about it. I know you got the refs signed to a deal, but without players, refs are no good to you.

Because I like you David Stern I will give you the benefit of the doubt, but right now, the NBA is pissing me off. Are you going to force me to watch NHL hockey this season and write about it as well. It seems that way Mr. Stern. Get a deal done, as I am tired of being pissed off at the NBA.

Tim Tebow Making Smart Decisions Even From The Bench

I know my readers love Tim Tebow, so I could not resist writing about his latest exploits
Okay I will admit it I am no Tim Tebow fan and I have been one of his most vocal critics, but this post is to defend Tim Tebow for once. I know this maybe the only time you see me defend Tim Tebow, so enjoy it for what it's worth. Kyle Orton is struggling at quarterback and the fans want Tim Tebow, which is something that can be expected. The fans love Tebow and it is understandable that they want to see their guy.

The fans had planned to buy billboard space and lobbying for Tim Tebow to be the quarterback. Now Tebow stepped in and said he would rather have the fans donate the money to charity instead, which was a great move on Tebow. I never said Tebow was dumb just do not think he is an NFL quarterback that’s all. Tim Tebow told his fans he will wait his turn and when given an opportunity he will take advantage of it.

Tim Tebow is saying all the right things and making the right decisions right now. For that, I must commend Tim Tebow, so for now I will not get on his back as much. Unless he starts playing then I can give my opinion of his play. Having a quarterback controversy is not good for a football team and it was great to see Tebow squash it right away. Now he can go back to holding the clipboard for the time being.

Brewers Will Be Better Without Prince Fielder

Prince Fielder came out in an interview and hinted this will probably be the last year he is with the Brewers. Now Brewers fans should not be too disappointed because actually this is a good thing. Milwaukee will be better with Fielder gone and here is why. First, the Brewers will save money on the cap and can direct it in other areas. Secondly, this also gives the Brewers a chance to see if Mat Gamel or others can step in and pick up the slack.

The Brewers will miss the production that Fielder gave them, but they will not miss his inconsistency in the clutch. For as good as Prince Fielder has been he has never been a clutch performer when the Brewers have needed him. This season he has been anything but clutch, so losing him in my opinion will not be as bad as many people think.

Many times you have to make changes and the change at first in reality will be good for the Brewers. It may not seem like it right now, but over the long haul it will be. It's time Brewers fans look towards the future and Fielder should not be in those plans.

Is It Time For Ozzie To Go In Chicago?

The Chicago White Sox continue there free fall and many people are wondering if the players have tuned out Ozzie Guillen. Is it time for Ozzie to go? Many people seem to think so and it is interesting that you have not heard any players step up to defend their manager much in the media. The White Sox have been getting beaten badly at times and that never bodes well for the manager.

Ozzie Guillen has been a very good manager for the White Sox, but maybe a change is needed. Sometimes players start to tune out a manager and that is what I think is happening to Ozzie. His players have grown tired of his antics and do not listen to him much anymore. The White Sox are talented and should be playing better baseball then they are right now.

This could be the last time we see Ozzie in a Chicago White Sox uniform as I expect him to be fired at season's end. I do not see how you can keep a guy where the players do not seem to perform well for him. Even when a team is losing they play hard, and at times you do not see that from the White Sox. A sad end it looks like for a guy who loves to manage the Chicago White Sox.

Pirates Grab Their 19th Straight Losing Season With Loss To St. Louis

The Pittsburgh Pirates have clinched their 19th consecutive losing a record for a major league franchise in North America. The Pirates looked like 2011 would be different for them as on July 20 the Pirates were 51-44 and led the NL Central by a half-game. Since that time though the Pirates have gone 16-38 since, and at 67-82 are ensured of another sub.-500 record.

Pirates fans deserve better, but another losing season will go into the books for them. I really thought this would be the year they broke the string, but it will not happen this year. Clint Hurdle had them playing well for awhile, but it is the Pirates and apparently losing continues to be a tradition with them.

Mariano Rivera Notches His 600th Save

No matter what anyone tells you 600 saves is a big milestone even if Mariano Rivera does not want to admit to it. Not many people in baseball history can claim 600 saves. In fact, only Rivera and Trevor Hoffman can actually make that claim. Rivera has been a model of consistency for the Yankees and he will tie Hoffman's record of 601 probably the next time he pitches. Rivera is a lock for the Hall Of Fame and may go down as the best reliever ever in the game of baseball.

Texas Longhorns Make A Change At Quarterback

It seems the love affair with Garrett Gilbert was short lived as he is now on the bench while Case McCoy Colt McCoy's younger brother and David Ash will handle the quarterback duties for the Longhorns. Gilbert threw two interceptions against BYU and was booed by the home crowd. Gilbert had a decent season last year, but it seems for now he will be on the bench for the Texas Longhorns. Another change is Freshman Malcolm Brown is listed as the starting tailback after leading Texas in rushing the first two games.

Mack Brown is a guy who wants to keep his job and he knows that unless Texas gets wins and move up the rankings he could be looking for a new job. Longhorn fans want results and if Brown cannot get them they will bring someone else in. Case McCoy and David Ash are young, but Brown is hoping they can get the job done for the Longhorns. If not this could be Mack Brown's last year as Texas Longhorn coach.

Michael Jordan Gets 100,000 Fine For Sharing His Opinion

Michael Jordan has learned as a owner you have to follow certain rules even if your name is Michael Jordan. The NBA fined Michael Jordan $100,000 for public comments he made last month about the lockout and one of the league's players, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. I really think this is stupid, but it's the NBA and rules are rules I guess.

In an Aug. 19 interview with The Herald Sun, a newspaper in Australia, the Charlotte Bobcats owner spoke extensively about the need for revenue sharing and mentioned Milwaukee Bucks' Australian center Andrew Bogut. I think Jordan has learned his lesson and while their is a lockout look for him to keep quiet on any NBA subject. He can afford the 100,000, but I am sure he is not happy about it.

What We Learned About The Phillies And Brewers This Weekend

The Milwaukee Brewers have one of the best home records in baseball and this past weekend they welcomed the Philadelphia Phillies to Miller Park. Philadelphia has been the most consistent baseball team this season and they proved it again this weekend. The Phillies went in and took three out of four from the Milwaukee Brewers. In fact, the Brewers got lucky they did not get swept by the Phillies.

What did we learn from this series? Both teams have good starting pitching, but Philadelphia is just a little bit better. Milwaukee has some good hitters, but the Phillies hitters performed in the clutch the Brewers did not. Both teams are talented, but over time the Phillies have proven they can beat anyone almost anywhere. The Milwaukee Brewers are still a team trying to learn how to do that. It looks right now the Phillies are still the best until someone proves different. This past weekend the Brewers found out just how good the Phillies are.

Tony Romo Has Another Cowboy Meltdown In Loss To Jets

Tony Romo can look like the next coming of Roger Staubach, but at times he can also have meltdowns that cost the Dallas Cowboys games. Last night, he had another one of his meltdowns as the Dallas Cowboys lost to the New York Jets by a score of 27-24. It looked like the Cowboys and Romo were going to start the season out right, but Romo fumbled and threw an interception in the final seconds to seal the Cowboys fate.

Throughout his career Tony Romo has made it a habit of costing his team games. Last night, his teammates came to his defense, but how much longer can they do that when he is costing them games. It would be okay if Romo had led the Cowboys to a Super Bowl, but he has not. Everyone knows in the league that Romo buckles under pressure and against good teams it always seems to happen. There is going to come a time when Jerry Jones is going to have to rethink his decision about Romo being the guy to lead the Cowboys. If losses keep piling up like this changes may need to be made.

Could Brian Kelly Be In Hot Seat Already?

Brian Kelly is finding out that life at Notre Dame can be awful tough. Last night at Michigan, the Fighting Irish looked like they would get their first win of the season. The problem was Brian Kelly's Irish only played three quarters and not four. Michigan had a great fourth quarter and shocked Notre Dame by a score of 35-31. It now puts Notre Dame at 0-2 and Michigan State up next.

For the Irish and Brian Kelly it is back to the drawing board. Yes, the Irish can move the ball and score points, but unless you play some defense, they will never beat anyone. You cannot try to have a shootout with teams week after week. Kelly will start to really feel the pressure if Notre Dame goes 0-3. Kelly left Cincinnati because he wanted a high profile job and Notre Dame was it.

It is much tougher to get those wins when you play tough teams week after week. Toss in everyone wants to beat Notre Dame and Brian Kelly has a tough uphill climb. Kelly is finding out why no coach since Lou Holtz has been able to make Notre Dame a consistent winner. It is tough, and it can break you very quickly. It will be interesting to see how Notre Dame does against Michigan State a game they must win.

Are The Colts Screwed Without Peyton Manning?

With Peyton Manning having his second neck surgery many Colts fans are probably down in the dumps. They should not be as it is not the end of the world. Peyton Manning will be back, and in reality Colts fans do not want him back until he is 100 percent healthy anyways. Now where does this leave the Indianapolis Colts and their chances in 2011.

Now I will admit the Colts are not as good when Peyton Manning is not under center, but it is also not the end of the world either. Kerry Collins is more than capable of getting the Colts in position to win week after week. He knows what it takes to win games and will do whatever it takes to get those wins. If Colts fans give Collins a chance they will find out that he is a capable back-up that will fill in nicely until No.18 gets back under center. The Colts will be fine, and another playoff appearance should also be within reach.
