Brewers VS Dodgers Was A Fun Series

Many people were wondering what we would learn about the Milwaukee Brewers as they took on the Los Angeles Dodgers in Milwaukee. Over the years in the regular season The Brewers have always played the Dodgers tough. Milwaukee lost the first two games of the series, but hung in and won the last two games for a split.

This series saw these two different divisional leaders battle hard. Both teams are loaded with talent, but the Dodgers lineup is tough to deal with everyday. From top to bottom they have some of the best hitters in baseball. There is no easy out in their lineup and you must pitch carefully to each batter. If not you can find yourself down a lot of runs quickly.

Milwaukee has pieced together their pitching staff this year, but the bullpen has been one of the better ones in baseball. With Devin Williams back and healthy Milwaukee’s bullpen has become even better. So, what did Brewers fans learn from this series?

If your a Brewers fan like me, you learned that Milwaukee will never quit playing or give up against anyone. Down two games in the series they could have gotten swept, but the battled every game in this series. Earning a spilt is huge for the Brewers and will help them later when the playoffs get here.

Make no mistake the Dodgers are one of the best teams in baseball, but a split gives the Brewers some confidence against them in the future. Series like this don’t mean alot right now, but in the bigger picture wins like this can only grow your confidence. Only time will tell what impact this series has had on them. As Brewers fans we will take a spilt with the Dodgers any day of the week.

Brewers Continue To Win Despite Injuries

During a MLB season injuries is something that every team must deal with to be successful. Over the last few years, the Milwaukee Brewers have done a great job dealing with this issue. How does Milwaukee do it where so many other teams seem to struggle with it. Let's take a look at why this is possible and why other teams have not adopted this approach.

Over the last decade the Milwaukee Brewers have really made a great effort in two areas. That is their farm system and drafting the right players year after year. Where most teams are looking to sign high dollar free agents the Brewers are frugal spenders and try to build teams in another way. Through the draft and promoting guys through the farm system.

Milwaukee has a Top 10 farm system that continues to get better every year. This means when they need players through injuries they bring them up to fill a vital role. These players know that they will be called up eventually and work hard in the farm system so they can be productive player's when the reach the Big Leagues.

Drafting players have changed over the years. There was a time where drafting was watching tape and visiting players in person. That still happens, but today’s scouting takes many different things into account before drafting a player. Milwaukee has had great success traveling all over the world looking for top talent.

Milwaukee has also done well drafted guys off the radar and making the most out of them. Milwaukee success has been mixing veterans with young players and they don’t plan to tinker with success.

Brewers Have No Answers Against Yankees In Back to Back Routs

The Milwaukee this weekend has a series with the New York Yankees and it did not end well. The Brewers suffered back to back losses to the Yankees giving up 30 runs. Is this the end of the Brewers hot start? Or is it just rough patch the Brewers must overcome.

Everyone talked about this series as a measuring stick for the Brewers, but I looked at it in a different way, It gave the young Brewers a chance to see a veteran team with some young stars who were very good. The New York Yankees are a very good hitting team and in the off-season they improved their pitching as well.

Against a Brewers staff that has struggled at times the Yankees took batting practice in the last two games. This is a learning experience that will make the Brewers better down the road. You  will have games like this and you lose and move on from it. Pitching is a work in progress for the Brewers so there will be growing pains.

Many fans are upset at the poor pitching performances, but it's a long season and there will be games like this as a team. The key is just improve over the season and the Brewers will be fine. There will be ups and downs, so this series does not worry me one bit.

Will The Brewers Finish Higher Than The Predictions?

The Milwaukee Brewers the last few years have been the model of consistency. Each year making a respectable showing many times winning the division outright. Fast forward to 2024 and it seems all the hard work the Brewers have done is now be taken granted for these days. Why is is that? Let's take a closer look at Milwaukee in 2024.

I can understand why everyone believes Milwaukee will struggling to be a team about the .500 level. They traded away Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff is gone for the season and Devin Williams will be out extended time. These are very good reasons to think Milwaukee will struggle all season long. I think it will not be as bad as people may think.

Devin Williams will be out around 3 to 4 months and then he will be back. The bullpen Milwaukee has right now should be able to hold it together until he gets back. The starting pitching is something that worries me a little. Once you get past Freddy Peralta it really gets sketchy.

There are guys who have pitched for other teams were brought in and a few young arms also will be sprinkled in as well. Milwaukee has been known to get the most out of their pitchers and 2024 won't be any different as well. As far as scoring Milwaukee has plenty of youth and veterans to add punch to the lineup. Toss in Gary Sanchez and Rhys Hoskins and the Brewers should be able to score runs.

I think Milwaukee will surprise a lot of people in 2024 and be contending again for a playoff berth or division title. Milwaukee loves winning the division, so do not count them out for that either.

Brewers Going Down On The Farm

As the Brewers baseball faithful watch, all MLB teams sign players Milwaukee sits by the wayside with their wallets zipped up tightly. If you are waiting for the Brewers to sign a big name to a big contract you might as well wait for your lottery ticket to hit as well. Milwaukee is not going to be a spender in free agency this off-season. They will be going farming in 2023 to fill out the Brewers roster.

What is farming you may ask? It’s simply relying on the Minor Leagues to fill out your roster. Milwaukee has some talent they have been grooming for the last few years. Those are the players that Milwaukee will be counting on to lead them to the playoffs in 2023. Many Brewers fans may not have heard of these players, but if they perform well Milwaukee would have made the correct decision.

Was this the right decision for Milwaukee and its fans? I guess only time will tell if it was a good decision. Good decision or bad Brewers fans should be used to ownership not spending a lot of money in free agency. Maybe this one time it will work out, but only time will tell.

Ted Simmons One Player People Forget About Behind The Plate

Here as Baseball Blogging Network, we try to give guys some love people sometimes overlook or forget about. People know I love Milwaukee Brewers players and one guy often overlooked is Ted Simmons. When you talk about great catchers names like Berra, Bench, and Mike Pizza are mentioned, but you will be hard-pressed to find someone to name Ted Simmons. Why isn't Ted Simmons named more when you talk about catchers. Let's take a look at Ted Simmons and his career and see what he accomplished.

Ted Simmons was a Silver Slugger winner and an 8-time All-Star along with finally getting elected into the Hall Of Fame in 2020 by the veteran's committee. Simmons played a total of 21 years which consisted of 13 in St. Louis, 5 in Milwaukee, and 3 with the Atlanta Braves. During his career, he had some impressive numbers for a catcher that many people seem to dismiss.

Six times he hit 20 or more home runs and three times he hit 100 or more RBI's in a season. He played 2,456 games and garnered 2,472 hits and 8 times he batted .300 or better in a season. Simmons numbers were very consistent across the board and was a very good defensive catcher. Being a switch hitter also made him a very dangerous hitter and a guy you could play against anyone. His 182 switch-hitting home runs rank #1 in the National League.

Ted Simmons may not be a household name to many, but during his time in the MLB he was a gritty tough ballplayer that you could count on day after day. He gave you everything he had and now he is in the Hall Of Fame. Well deserved for a guy who played 21 years in Major League Baseball.

Kolton Wong Becomes A Milwaukee Brewers Player After 8 Seasons With Cardinals

The one thing I do like about the Milwaukee Brewers they always looking to improve on things and with the signing of Kolton Wong they did just that quickly. Wong has won two consecutive Gold Glove awards and is a good hitter as well. He will not overwhelm you with his offense but is solid and consistent. Defensively is where Wong excels and that is something that you can never have enough of that's for sure.

By adding Wong Milwaukee will probably move some guys around and put them in positions that are better suited for them. The only real problem with this signing is we need to find a spot for some other players. Could Milwaukee be looking to trade away some guys? This is a possibility but I would not look for that right now.

Depth is something in baseball you can never have enough of as injuries can derail a season very quickly. Milwaukee will find places for everyone and once the season gets started you will have guys who play better than others. This is why depth is so important to baseball teams. It's getting harder to find quality players at a good price. Teams that watch how they spend is going to very important this season. Money is tight in baseball after the 2020 season and teams must watch payroll. Milwaukee is no different than any other smart market team.

How Can The Milwaukee Brewers Get Better In 2021?

The Milwaukee Brewers made the playoffs in 2020 which was really a great accomplishment considering how bad the offense was on this team. Now that the Brewers are looking towards many tough decisions will need to happen and some already have happened. Brewers declined the option on Ryan Braun's 15 million dollar contract. They also declined options on  Jedd Gyroko, Eric Sogard, and Ben Gamel. Of these three players, all of them struggled to hit the ball in 2020. Now maybe some of these players might be resigned but it will be for a lower amount of money.

This season coming up players I think will see less money being offered by MLB teams. Many are struggling financially without fans in the stands. Even some of the bigger ballclubs will probably watch their spending as well. This actually could help the Brewers get some players normally they could not afford. These players though will most likely sign one or two-year deals hoping to make a higher wage down the line.

Finding the right players can be tough in this kind of climate. Last season I thought Milwaukee made some good choices, but it did not exactly work out well for them. The pitching was good enough, but offensively they were challenged to say the least. The problem is will Milwaukee spend the kind of money that is needed to get the free agents they need. One option I guess is to rely on the minors, but there really is not anything great down there either. Milwaukee could be stuck for a couple years if they go the minor league route.

What Can We Expect From The Milwaukee Brewers In A 60 Game Season?

Many people wonder what teams will struggle and excel in a 60 game MLB season. The Milwaukee Brewers are one team many people are pointing to as a possible sleeper in this shortened season. I tend to agree with that as well. During the off-season, the Milwaukee Brewers lost many players to free agency, but also added a lot. Milwaukee had the philosophy to add a good mixture of players to their team. Not everyone is a superstar, but collectively they should be good.

Injuries will probably play a big part in this shortened season and the Brewers are in a great place if this happens as well. Many of the players that the Brewers have signed can play multiple positions which is very important. Over the years injuries can derail a season, but the Brewers should be okay in that department which could mean the difference between the playoffs and staying home.

Pitching is another part of the game which will be very important as well. The Brewers pitching staff struggled at times last season. The added some new faces to the staff and they are hoping they will have career years for the Brewers.

In the end, I see the Brewers winning around 35 games and earning a wild card spot. This shortened season will be different, so anyone could win it. The Brewers have a good chance as anyone, but it will come down the team who gets hot. You cannot start out slow as there are only 60 games. This means every game is important and you must treat it that way. No matter what happens this will be different for baseball fans.

Why Milwaukee Needs To Pull Trigger On Josh Hader Deal

Milwaukee has been listening to offers for Josh Hader from various teams, but mostly the Yankees. Many people want the Brewers to keep Hader and keep him in the closer role for Milwaukee. Now I am not one of those people. I do like what Josh brings to the table, but for me, it's about what you do when it really counts.

Hader for me has blown some games that meant a lot to the Brewers which is something they cannot afford going forward. When you are in such a small market and don't have the cap space to spend every game is important. In 2019 he had 7 blown saves which aren't a lot, but his ERA in the one playoff game was 18.00. That is not acceptable. When the Brewers really needed him to come through and save the game he could not do it. Hence the Brewers were eliminated from the playoffs.

Considering that the Brewers really do not like to spend money trading Hader makes the most sense. Getting younger is key for the Brewers which will help them over the long haul. With Braun getting older and Cain as well Milwaukee needs to make plans for the future.

An ideal situation would be to keep Hader, but if you can get a lot for him you must move him. This way you can help the team over the long term and still be competitive.

Darryl Hamilton Dead At 50 As Apparent Muder-Suicide Took His Life

Darryl Hamilton former Major League Baseball player has died of an apparent murder-suicide at his home. According to police his girlfriend may have shot him multiple times then turned the gun on herself. The couple has a 15 month old child as well. Hamilton played a number of seasons if the Major Leagues and was a good player. A lifetime .291 hitter he was a player that loved the game and always played hard and did whatever was needed to get the win.

I was lucky enough to meet Hamilton and got his autograph and he was a classy guy. He always found time for the fans and signing autographs. He played for a number of different teams, but everywhere he played his teammates have fond memories of him. He was the kind of guy that was a total team player. He will be missed as he was a special ballplayer. If you ever met him he would always put a smile on your face. Fun guy to talk to and a hard worker on and off the field. R.I.P. Darryl Hamilton.

Cecil Cooper A Very Underrated Talent

Cecil Cooper was a player who started his career with the Boston Red Sox in 1971 and ended his career in 1987 with the Milwaukee Brewers. When Cooper hit the scene he was not known as a very good defensive player. Over the years though he improved that a lot and towards the end of his career he was a very good one.

Most people do not realize that Coop as he was known could do almost anything with the bat. If you needed a bunt, single or home run he could do it all. He made himself a complete player which is rare in today's game. Even though his numbers were not great in Boston he made up for that in Milwaukee. He helped the Brewers make the playoffs and was a consistent player during his time with the Brewers.

Cooper managed the Houston Astros, but was fired in 2009. He now lives in Texas with his wife Tori and has two grown daughters. Cecil Cooper was not the biggest star in his career, but a player that produced in the clutch and on a consistent basis.

What Kind Of Year Will Ryan Braun Have In 2014

Ryan Braun now has the 2013 season behind him and all the lies and troubles. What kind of season can Brewers fans expect from their talented superstar? The truth is Ryan Braun did not need the drug enhancing help, as he was a good player before those things entered his body. One of the toughest things Ryan Braun will deal with is the abuse from fans. It can get pretty nasty and how he handles could determine what kind of season he will have this season. Braun has been pretty good about handling the boos, but if he struggles the boos may become a problem.

I look for Braun to have a MVP type season once again. He should be rested as his suspension helped him get healthy once again. When healthly Ryan Braun is one of the best players in baseball. The Milwaukee Brewers need him this season if they want to improve on the dismal 2013 season. Fans of the Milwaukee Brewers will expect alot from Braun as he has let them down in the past. For him to get back in there good graces it will take a couple of great seasons.

Why Ryan Braun Should Never Wear A Brewers Uniform Again

Ryan Braun was trusted by many including management and fans. He shot an arrow through everyone’s heart with his suspension. We trusted him and believe he was innocent for such a long time and the most he can give us is I’m sorry. Well, Mr. Braun that is not good enough for us Milwaukee Brewers fans. We expect much more from our players then what you have given us lately.

Growing up watching the Milwaukee Brewers players like Sixto Lezcano, Cecil Cooper, and Gorman Thomas did things the right way. These were some of the guys that built the foundation that you enjoy. Robin Yount and Paul Molitor never took short cuts and that is why they are in the Hall Of Fame. Mr. Braun you will never be a Hall Of Fame player now. At one time we thought you were destined to be there beside other Brewers. That day is forever gone and you cheated the fans which probably what hurts the most.

Suspension is not a punishment fitting the crime if you ask die-hard Brewers fans. We want more and should receive more in the gift of never seeing you wear the Milwaukee Brewers uniform again. It is a privileged to wear that uniform and you have tarnished everyone from former players to fans who trusted you. Hopefully, you will learn taking short cuts is not the way of the Brewers organization and banishment as a Brewers player is the only thing you will understand.

Brewers Trade Zack Greinke To Angels For Prospects

Well it looks like the Milwaukee Brewers are giving up on this season with the move of pitcher Zack Greinke. The Brewers trade Greinke to the Angels for three minor league prospects. The three prospects are
rookie shortstop Jean Segura   and two Double-A pitchers. The three prospects were some of the better ones in the Angels organization. I do not like the trade for a few reasons as the Brewers should know by now pitching wins championships.

Milwaukee traded Greinke away and that is a shame as he is a very good pitcher. Finding pitchers like Greinke are rare these days, so when you get them you should hold on to them very tight. Yes, Milwaukee got some good prospects for them, but in reality nothing that will help them right away. It looks for the Brewers fans this could be another one of those lost seasons as they struggle to get back into the playoff race.

What Should The Next Moves Be For The Brewers

No that the season is over the Milwaukee Brewers have some thinking to do. Prince Fielder is a free agent and a number guys on the team are as well. Milwaukee did decline the option on Francisco Rodriguez, so he is free to go. Milwaukee was never going to keep him anyways, so it was not a big loss. Yuniesky Betancourt was another player that the Brewers are releasing and will be getting a buyout like Rodriguez. I do not look for Betancourt to be back at all.

Milwaukee needs to make a decision Fielder soon as they must either move forward or try to make some kind of good offer towards him. I love Fielder, but as I have written before letting him go is the Brewers best option. Milwaukee needs a good everyday shortstop and the money we spend on Fielder can help the Brewers in many other ways. Fielder will be missed, but sometimes you just have to move on.

Getting more starting pitching is something the Brewers need to look into as well. Third base is another question mark for Milwaukee. Will they give Casey McGehee another chance, or will they groom someone else for that position. As you can see the Milwaukee Brewers have many questions they must get answers to and real soon.

Brewers Get Booted By Cardinals 12-6

The Milwaukee Brewers had the best home record in baseball, but it did not matter. The facts are when you boot the baseball around you get beat. That is exactly what happen to the Milwaukee Brewers who got crushed at home 12-6 and watch the St. Louis Cardinals celebrate on their field. Milwaukee really has no one to blame but themselves. All season long they struggle completing the simple plays and that was their downfall in this series as well.

Give the St. Louis Cardinals a lot of credit though as they earned this series as much as the Brewers gave it away. The Cardinals have come a long way to get where they are right now and deserve a chance to win a World Series title. They went through the Phillies and Brewers to get to the World Series. That was no easy task, but they were able to do it and should be commended on getting the job done.

Nyjer Morgan Brewers Loud Spark Plug

When the Milwaukee brewers traded for Nyjer Morgan they knew they were not getting any choir boy. They were getting a guy who could play baseball, but sometimes his antics overshadowed his talent on the field. Morgan has been a little tamer this season, but not much. He still talks a lot and plays baseball very well though. He also has been a main reason the Milwaukee Brewers are one step away from the World Series.

Last night Morgan had a critical double, but was quiet and really did not have much to say after the game. Even though the Brewers won the game Morgan not talking is something that does not happen often. He usually loves to be in front of the camera talking. It was a departure from the Tony Plush Nyjer Morgan Brewers fans have come to know. No matter what Morgan has been a loud spark plug that the Brewers have needed this season and his contribution has been huge during the 2011 run into the playoffs.

Zack Greinke Adds Fuel To The Fire As He Calls Out Chris Carpenter

Now it is weird that you would hear Zack Greinke saying anything, but he has added fuel to the fire when the series between the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals open tomorrow. Greinke called Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter phony which should just put more fuel on the fire. Both of these teams do not like each other, so this will just bring more tension to this series.

Brewers rabble-rousing center fielder Nyjer Morgan got in a heated confrontation with Carpenter late in the regular season—yet another sign that the two NL Central rivals don’t like each other much. Both teams really do not like each other,so it should be an interesting series. I expect to see tempers flare and a few bench clearing incidents before this one is said and done.

Brewers Will Be Better Without Prince Fielder

Prince Fielder came out in an interview and hinted this will probably be the last year he is with the Brewers. Now Brewers fans should not be too disappointed because actually this is a good thing. Milwaukee will be better with Fielder gone and here is why. First, the Brewers will save money on the cap and can direct it in other areas. Secondly, this also gives the Brewers a chance to see if Mat Gamel or others can step in and pick up the slack.

The Brewers will miss the production that Fielder gave them, but they will not miss his inconsistency in the clutch. For as good as Prince Fielder has been he has never been a clutch performer when the Brewers have needed him. This season he has been anything but clutch, so losing him in my opinion will not be as bad as many people think.

Many times you have to make changes and the change at first in reality will be good for the Brewers. It may not seem like it right now, but over the long haul it will be. It's time Brewers fans look towards the future and Fielder should not be in those plans.

We Will See If Baker Mayfield Was Worth The Money This Sunday Against Atlanta

This past Monday Night was very costly for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they lost both wideouts Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Evans should be...
