What's Wrong With The Cleveland Browns?

Another week and another loss by the hapless Cleveland Browns. Cleveland has not played well all season and is at the bottom of many different offensive and defensive categories. What's wrong with the Cleveland Browns? Let's take a closer look at the problems that Cleveland is facing right now.

Many people want to toss it at the feet of Deshaun Watson, but reality is it's not all his fault. Yes, at times he has not played well, other times he has been failed by players around him. Many dropped balls, and a patchwork offensive line has not helped. When he gets the offense going it seems penalties crop up to hurt this team.

Defensively, the Cleveland Browns are missing too many easy tackles and some players like Myles Garrett are playing hurt. Last season this was a Top 5 defense, but they are far from that right now. Pentalies and missed assignments continue to plague this team on a weekly basis. That hasn't been fixed in the last four weeks and I don't know if it will ever get fixed.

Even the kicking game has failed the Browns on different occasions. Coaching has also been a problem for the Cleveland Browns. This is a team that are not together and everyone is playing for themselves and not each other. Until they become one team and quit pointing fingers at each other it will not get fixed anytime soon.

Cleveland fans deserve better, but like they say it's never fun to be a Browns fan and I guess they maybe right.

Browns Had Chance To Make Playoffs Against Lowly Jets But Lose A Game They Should Have Won

The Cleveland Browns have had a crazy last 36 hours and it ended with a loss to the lowly New York Jets by a score of 23-16. Cleveland was shorthanded as many offensive players were in Covid-19 protocol and did not make the trip to New York. Did the Browns miss these players? Yes, but you still have to win with who you have on the team. The sad part is Cleveland came out and looked like a team that had nothing to play for at all. The New York Jets looked like the hungry team that had something to play for even though they did not.

Baker Mayfield struggled throughout the game missing open receivers and turning the ball over. When you do those two things you really do not have much chance of winning. Cleveland did not run the ball very well against a Jets team that was horrible on defense and missing players as well. All in all, Cleveland was not prepared for this game at all. The play calling was questionable at best as well. Running the ball is what Cleveland does well, but was abandoned way to early in my opinion.

Now the Browns must win against Pittsburgh and hope they get some help along the way. If they do not it will be another year the Browns miss the playoffs. At least this season the Browns have been competitive that is something they can build on if they miss the playoffs this season.

Why The Browns Need To Act Quickly After The Season Is Over

The Cleveland Browns are hoping to end the season on a good note as Sunday they will travel to Cincinnati to take on in-state rival the Bengals. A big win could help Freddie Kitchens keep his job, but a loss will make it so much easier for the Browns to fire him. No matter what happens Cleveland needs to make wholesale changes on this coaching staff. Firing Kitchens and most of his staff would be the best course of action.  Will Cleveland do it is another question indeed.

Kitchens has shown he is not ready to be a head coach in the NFL just yet. There have been times you just have to say what in the hell was he thinking. Baker Mayfield has struggled this year and it's not all his fault. Part of it is coaching, but part is on Mayfield as well. Cleveland as a team has been undisciplined and a shell of what we saw last season. Why is that?

Last seen they had Greg Williams as coach a no-nonsense coach that had rules and put up with nothing. In my opinion, if they do fire Freddie Kitchens they need a coach that will be demanding like Williams was to players. There is too much talent on the Browns not to be in the playoffs. Coaching was 80 percent of the problem this season. Getting the right coaches in here should make the difference between an average team and a playoff team.

Browns Showed They Have Given Up On Season And Freddie Kitchens

The Cleveland Browns showed how much they care about the season, and most importantly their coach Freddie Kitchens with their performance in Arizona. The Cardinals handled the Browns by a score of 38-24 and it really was not that close.

Cleveland stumbled there way through the first half with mistake after mistake. Toss in Coach Freddie Kitchens horrible play calling and you can figure out the rest. Even on defense, the Browns looked like they did not care. Kitchens is starting to rank up there with Hue Jackson as the worse coach in Browns history. In Jackson's defense, he didn't have any talent like Kitchens has right now.

The Browns cannot continue down the path they are going. Having players quit on the coach is unacceptable and Cleveland must make changes soon rather than later. The way the Browns are playing they could very well be the worse coach team in the league with overall the best talent. Who said coaching does not matter because it really does.

OBJ Burning Bridges In Cleveland

OBJ came to Cleveland to show people he was not the bad guy people said he was in New York. In less then a year OBJ has started to burn bridges in Cleveland already. A report came out this weekend where he has been courting other teams to come and get him. As of right now he has not denied it and it came from a very reputable source in Jay Glazer. Cleveland gave up alot to bring him to Cleveland and right now it looks like the Browns might be forced to see what they can get for him.
Is there a market for OBJ? I am sure there is, but not as much as many people may think. The fans will now start to turn on him because he has already indicated he wants out of Cleveland. Fans in Cleveland are very loyal, but if you do not want to be there the fans don't want you on the team. I'm looking for it to get really bad as we approach the end of the season. If Cleveland falters down the stretch look for OBJ to get piled on fair or not.
I was one that thought the OBJ experiment would go well in Cleveland with his friend Jarvis Landry on the team, but it has not. Baker Mayfield and OBJ just has not been able to get on the same page. Every week it seems like OBJ disappears on offense and a talent like his should be on display every week. No matter how this end both sides will lose out on this experiment.

What I Want To See From The Browns In These Final Few Games!

The Cleveland Browns season isn't totally lost, but right now you could say it's on life support. This doesn't mean they cannot still accomplish some things heading into the 2020 season. Let's take a closer look at what is left for the Cleveland Browns in the 2019 season.
Cleveland must first and foremost figure on how to make OBJ a vital part of the offense. This season it seems OBJ is lost and does not know what Cleveland expects from him. Cleveland needs to get him involved in the offense early in games. It seems as the game goes longer he loses interested and Cleveland doesn't consider him an option to go too. When you got a talent like OBJ you must make sure he is involved from start to finish.
Another thing Cleveland must decide on is Head Coach Freddie Kitchens as well. Do they keep him or fire him? Kitchens has not done a very good job in my opinion. At times he looks totally lost. Cleveland needs to make sure this is the guy they want to move forward with for a long time. Is this the guy who will push Mayfield and make him a better player? Can he make players accountable for their actions as well? Lots of questions ownership must figure out.
Lastly, Cleveland has four games left and must finish strong. It gives the Browns a chance to prove this season was not a lost cause. By running the table the off-season will be a lot easier to take. If the Browns lose any of these games it's going to be a very long off-season.

Whats Wrong With The Browns Comes Down To 3 Things

After another loss for the Browns this time in Denver there are 3 things they must do to turn their season around. The question is will the Browns make these three changes to right the ship. Let's look at the three things that must be done right away.

1. Freddie Kitchens must be willing to change and adapt. Now, this might be the hardest thing to do. Kitchens is a proud coach and is stubborn. He does not seem to like change and getting him to change and adapt could be a tough one. Kitchens needs to go back and make things simple for the team. He is trying to be too cute and fancy and it shows on the field of play. It seems he tries to make it tougher then it has to be. Sometimes when we talk football simple is better.

2. Tackle, Tackle, Tackle. The Browns have had a real issue this season with tackling their opponents. This is an area that really needs a lot of improvement. Last year the Browns were a lot better at tackling. I'm wondering how much losing Greg Williams as defensive coordinator had to do with the bad tackling now. The best part is this can be worked on at practice until it gets better.

3. Lastly, culture change must happen in the locker room. Watching the Browns play they look like a team divided. Most teams compete as one, but I do not see that in the Browns. It seems everyone has there own agenda and it seems winning is not one of them.

For Cleveland to get back on track these three things are a good place start. Will it happen I doubt it. Unless some kind of change is made it will continue to be a free fall for the Cleveland Browns and their season.

When The Hype Stops The Real Cleveland Browns Appear It Seems

The Cleveland Browns were given plenty of hype in the off-season and it seems the hype train has derailed already for Browns fans. Now the season is still early, but there was so much promise for the 2019-20 edition of the Cleveland Browns. What has gone wrong for the Browns this season? It can be narrowed down to a few things, and we will look at some of those things.

It all starts with the quarterback and Baker Mayfield has struggled with consistency and stays upright in the pocket. The offensive line has struggled and that has not helped Mayfield in his second year which was supposed to be his breakout season. When you have a young quarterback you must have every piece work together or they will struggle.

Cleveland has one of the best receiver group in the whole NFL, but they have not lived up to the hype as well. Why is that? Simply put it takes time to gel as a group and it may take a season together before you see any real success. OBJ, Jarvis Laundry are two of the best in the league and will be fine once they get more playing time together.

Out of everything so far this season the defense, in my opinion, has been the most disappointing unit of them all. They have had some injuries, but they are such a talented group. There is no excuse for giving up as many points and yards they have this season. They must get better if the Browns are going to improve this season.

Overall the Browns should be okay after next week's Patriots game. The schedule gets a lot easier which should help them out a lot. The bottom line is they must continue to improve every week if they want to be a playoff team.

Browns Officially Name Freddie Kitchens Head Coach

The Cleveland Browns could have gone in many different directions, but they chose to stay in house and hire offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens as their next head coach. Was this a good move? Or is it a gamble they hope will pay off big time for them? The answer to those questions we will find down the line as the seasons progress under Kitchens watch. Let's look at what we know and why this hired went down like it did.
Freddie Kitchens made the offense more innovative in a very short time and he won games and scored points. Maybe the No.1 thing he did was put Baker Mayfield in position to make plays and help win games. Baker Mayfield probably also lobbied for him to be the head coach as well. Now I really do not mind the hire, but I think he will need to hire some really good assistant coaches. Kitchens knows the offense, but they will need to hire a good defensive mind. The Browns defense is loaded with studs, but they need a good coach to get them even better.
I think Kitchens as an offensive coordinator was great, but as a head coach, only time will tell if that is a good fit. No matter what happens the Browns have got their man and the fans and the media will have to deal with it. Give John Dorsey credit so far in his tenure he has made very few mistakes. This could be a great hire if everything works out for him.

Clay Matthews Once Again Snubbed By The Hall

It seems year after year Clay Matthews does not get any love from the Hall Of Fame football committee, but it's really no shock. When the committee announced the 15 finalists Clay Matthews name was nowhere to be found. Now the real question is what does the committee want or is there something Clay did wrong. Is his resume not good enough? Or is it a Cleveland thing that is holding him back.

Matthews is third on the all-time list with 1,561 tackles and played 19 years. I guess two of the things they do not look at is durability and making plays. This is what Clay Matthews was all about. You got a guy who showed up every Sunday to play and gave it his all. Isn't that what a Hall Of Famer is about being the best on and off the field of play.

The committee can give all the excuses they want but the reality is Clay Matthews should have at least made the list. Yes, there are other players who got snubbed as well but Clay Matthews has waited long enough. It's time he gets into the Hall Of Fame where he rightly belongs.

Baker Mayfield Keeps Browns Slim Playoff Hopes Alive With Another Win

Baker Mayfield keeps doing whatever it takes to win games and Cleveland Browns fans could not be happier. Mayfield did not play well in the Browns latest win a 17-16 up against the Denver Broncos on the road. People need to realize it does not matter what the score is or how bad you play it's all getting about getting the win. At Oklahoma Mayfield proved to be a winner and at this level, he has done that as well. I think great things will come from Baker Mayfield Browns fans just need to be patient as there will be highs and lows as well.
Overall Mayfield did make some mistakes and it was a sloppy game, to say the least. Cleveland made mistakes on both sides of the ball and that probably will continue for rest of the season. They are a young team and getting them to listen and follow directions sometimes can be a daunting task, to say the least. The key to the Browns and how well this resurgence will do is the coach. Will Gregg Williams stay at the helm or will they bring someone else in to run the team. By the way, the Browns are playing right now you may want to keep Gregg Williams around for a lot longer. Everything is clicking and sometimes it is best not to mess with a good thing.

How Much More Can We Expect Browns Fans To Take?

After thinking about this long and hard I am wondering how much more can we expect Cleveland Browns fans to take. They lost their team and then got it back only to see some horrible pro football. The last three seasons and counting this season the Browns are a combined 6-48-1 which is totally unacceptable. It does not end there for Browns fans though as they have had to endure some horrible coaching since 1999.

Here is a list of the coaches since then:

Chris Palmer
Butch Davis
Terry Robiskie
Romeo Crennel
Eric Mangini
Pat Shurmur
Rob Chudzinski
Mike Pettine
Hue Jackson

Look at the list of coaches above, not the who's who of coaching in the NFL that's for sure. This is one of the main reasons the Browns have been so bad for so long. When you do not have the best coaches you will struggle and the Browns have proven that theory correct. Browns fans have hated most of their coaches and with the performance of them you really cannot blame them.

Draft players have been another issue as well. Cleveland probably has one of the worse draft records of any NFL team. Some of the players the Browns have chosen over the years make you shake your head. The performance on the field has shown these picks have been horrible at best. At least now the Browns have John Dorsey and the picks have been getting alot better.

I give Cleveland Browns fans credit as they are really resilient, but how much more can they take. This season the Browns could be 6-1 but they have lost games they should have won. It goes to show you that the Browns fan base is one of the best in the NFL. Win or lose they continue to support the team no matter how bad it has been for them.

Browns Lose In Overtime Again But Have Issues Besides Just Hue Jackson

The Cleveland Browns lost again this time in overtime to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 26-23 on a 60-yard field goal. Now you can blame a lot of people for this loss and many people are asking for Hue Jackson to be fired. Now that's a possibility, but there are a lot more problems than just Hue Jackson. Does Hue Jackson deserve to be fired? That's an easy answer yes he should be with the record he has, but it goes much deeper than that for the Cleveland Browns.

The Buccaneers have an elite offense and they showcased that against the Browns defense that at times looked lost and confused. This has something to do with injuries, but you cannot commit penalty after penalty either. The Browns had so many penalties today many of them should not have happened. Encroachment and offsides and illegal procedure should not happen. You can blame coaching but in the end, it comes down to the players on the field. They know exactly what to do, but are not executing it very well.

John Dorsey has made many changes one was getting rid of players he felt were not winners. yes, the Browns are better this season, but they are still making the same mistakes they did when they were 0-16. A coaching change is probably the next step, but there are so many problems that need to be addressed as well. What has happened to the Browns defense it has been shredded the last two games? How about Duke Johnson? Johnson is frustrated and you cannot blame him one bit.  He was supposed to get more touches, but it looks the same in my opinion.

The Cleveland Browns have many issues internal and external. Hopefully, they can get it fixed soon if not it looks like another bad season in Cleveland.

Carlos Hyde Traded To Jags For 5th Round Pick

Carlos Hyde was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 5th round pick today. Hyde had to know the writing was on the wall if you ask me. Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson needed more carries and the only way that was going to happen is to trade Carlos Hyde. For the Browns this is something that may not turn out as well as they hope it does and here is why.

Everyone is looking at Nick Chubbs numbers and they are very impressive, but you also must factor in other things as well. Defenses were not designed to slow him down in their game plans, but that will stop with Hyde being traded. Chubb is a great talent, but it will be much tougher to knock off those big runs like he did early this season. Only time will tell how this works out for the Browns.

As far as Duke Johnson he does need to touch the ball more, but I do not think it should be as a runner. He cannot take the punishment of being an every down running back. Cleveland should consider making Johnson a slot receiver which would make matchup nightmares for opposing teams. The way it looks though that will not happen anytime soon.

It will be interesting to see how this trade works out for both teams. Hyde is a workhorse back and should do well in Jacksonville. For the Browns they are hoping that Chubb can carry the load like he did in Georgia. Only time will tell if the Browns made a good decision on trading Carlos Hyde.

Browns And Buccaneers Both At Crossroads Already This Season

The Cleveland Browns and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter this Sunday at a crossroad in their respective seasons. For the Cleveland Browns after beating the Baltimore Ravens they felt they were headed in the right direction. That train got derailed last week with a drubbing at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers. Tampa Bay started at like a house of fire, but that it seems was a long time ago. The Bucs are struggling to win ball games and many issues have cropped up for them as well. Today, we will take a quick look at both teams and what their major problems happen to be right now.

Tampa Bay has one of the best offenses in the NFL ranking either one or two most weeks. The Bucs can score points and a lot of them. One of there issues on offense is they virtually have no running game at all. This means teams know they are going to pass it to their talented core of receivers but no one seems to be able to stop it. You would think they would be at the top of there division because of it, but they are not. Tampa Bay has one of the worse defenses in the NFL. They give up huge chunks of yardage and points. This usually puts all the pressure on the offense to outscore their opponents. In today's NFL that just is not possible.

The Cleveland Browns have issues as well and are at a crossroad as well. After the drubbing by the Chargers, many things are starting to come out about this young Browns team. Words such as fragile and not on the same page are being heard. Injuries are also playing a role as well. Players like Jarvis Landry hasn't produced the numbers the Browns had hoped for to this point. Trading away Josh Gordon was probably not a good move considering the Browns injuries as wide receiver. This is a young team and when you start to lose finger pointing starts to come out. Baker Mayfield is not use to losing and that is why this week in Tampa is so important to both teams.

Tampa Bay and Cleveland both are at crossroads and which team will do enough to win this game. The losing team could find their season spiraling out of control. This is why both teams understand this is a must win this Sunday. The question is who will want it more Tampa Bay or Cleveland.

Are The Cleveland Browns Really A Playoff Capable Team?

The Cleveland Browns have been the laughing stock of the NFL the last two years, but that will be ending very soon. Cleveland Browns fans are always optimistic every year, but this season seems a lot different. Gone are many players from the 1-31 teams replaced by veterans and free agent signings. It seems a new look and attitude abounds in Berea, Ohio and Browns fans will tell you its about time.

Baker Mayfield was drafted No.1 as the future quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, but getting Tyrod Taylor from the Bills was also very important. Taylor is a quarterback that will give you a chance to win. Last season the quarterback position cost the Browns some wins. With Taylor, he will limit his mistakes and give you a chance to win. Probably the other big dal the Browns make was getting Jarvis Landry from the Miami Dolphins. Landry is a receiver who moves the chains and makes the tough catch when you need it. With Josh Gordon and Jarvis Landry, the Browns now have a great one-two punch.

On the defensive side of the equation, the Browns addressed the secondary which needed to be upgraded. Rookie Denzel Ward brings a toughness to corner and he is going to surprise people with his tough-minded playing ability. Overall, the defense is vastly approved as well. Can Cleveland make a playoff run this season?

Cleveland has to be one of the most improved teams going into the 2018-19 season. The key will be how well they mesh early and the kind of start they get off too. If they struggle out of the gates it could be a long season. I don't forsee that happening as they have too many talented players on both sides of the ball. What also helps Cleveland is most of the great teams are in the NFC  not in the AFC. Cleveland will be a middle of the road team, but there are many like that in the AFC. The Browns have a good chance as anyone else to be a playoff team in the AFC in 2018-2019 Go Brownies!

Could Josh Allen Save The Browns?

We are starting a series of articles on the quarterbacks and how each could fit into the Cleveland Browns plans.  First up is Josh Allen the rocket arm quarterback from Wyoming.  In recent days the rumors have been flying that he is becoming a favorite in Cleveland. I do not know if that is true,  but let's take a look at Mr. Allen.

Josh Allen played college football for Wyoming and one look at his stats and you wonder why anyone would take him in the first round.  His stats really do not jump off at you and say I'm the best.  Even with that said many people have him as a top prospect.  There are many reasons people love Josh Allen and what he can do.  I will admit I really like his skill set as well.

Allen has a body to play quarterback and without a doubt  his arm strength is top notch.  I think without a doubt he has the strongest  arm in the draft. The knock on Allen is his low completion percentage and his in ability to make routine throws on a consistent basis.

Josh Allen has plenty of upside and virtually an unlimited ceiling.  If he went to Cleveland he would have Hue Jackson to tutor him and others with experience at that position.  There is no doubt that Allen will be a project as you will need to clean up some of his flaws. One thing that will help him is a good receiving core.  Many times an inconsistent quarterback can look alot better with great receivers to throw too.
In the end Cleveland must decide if they are willing to take a guy on who is a work in progress. Allen has a high ceiling so that could be just enough to persuade the Browns to pick him real early.

Deshone Kizer Gets Traded To Packers In Many Moves BY Browns

It seems John Dorsey wasn't kidding when he said changes needed to be made, and he was not afraid to pull the trigger. Dorsey sent Deshone Kizer to the Packers and Danny Shelton to the Patriots and traded for three players including Tyrod Taylor, Jarvis Laundry, and Damarious Randall. All of these players should help the Cleveland Browns out which is what you want when you make trades. Out of all the players that the Browns lost Kizer was the one I did not want to see go.

Now I know I may be the minority here, but I thought Kizer was a guy with the right people around him and some coaching could be a decent NFL quarterback. I hope the Cleveland Browns did not give up on him too soon. We will find out what Kizer is made up as he will be learning from Aaron Rodgers one of the best in the NFL. If he cannot get him to play better and to do things the right way no one really can. I think Kizer will flourish in Green Bay but only time will tell if that will be what happens.

Could Hue Jackson Coach The Bengals In 2018?

Hue Jackson is currently the Cleveland Browns coach, but could he be on the move in 2018. Jimmy Haslem the Cleveland Browns owner has said he will be back in 2018, but things could change. The new GM does not seem real thrilled with Jackson so this could get real interesting. One of the things that has happened is Marvin Lewis will not be back as the Cincinnati Bengals head coach. Hue Jackson has a lot of ties to the Bengals which could speed up a move by Jackson.

I think there could be a power struggle in the offseason between Jackson and the new Browns GM. This could force the Browns owners hand and which way he goes could be interesting. Will he keep Hue Jackson even if the GM says he has to go? It will be interesting to see if Jackson stays after such a dismal record. The Bengals opening is something that could interest Jackson enough to just quit the Browns.

We Will See If Baker Mayfield Was Worth The Money This Sunday Against Atlanta

This past Monday Night was very costly for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they lost both wideouts Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Evans should be...
