Now it seems everything has been going downhill for the Cleveland Indians as of late and today was no exception. Angels pitcher Ervin Santana pitched the first solo no-hitter for the Angels in nearly 27 years, striking out 10 and leading Los Angeles over the Cleveland Indians 3-1 Wednesday. Santana allowed only two runners -- there was an error on the leadoff batter in the first inning and a walk in the eighth. Now Santana would be the last Angels pitcher I would think could throw a no-hitter, but he did.
The Tribe started the season hot, but has struggled since the hot start. Injuries and just poor p[lay has been their downfall, and now a no-hitter is thrown against them. This also was the first no-hitter at Progressive Field, a ballpark that opened as Jacobs Field in 1994. The last pitcher to hold the Indians hitless was Jim Abbott of the New York Yankees on Sept. 4, 1993. For Santana, it was a most unlikely performance. The 28-year-old righty came in 0-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 10 career starts against the Indians. Well the Tribe can always look forward to tomorrow as it's a new day.
