Brewers Will Be Better Without Prince Fielder

Prince Fielder came out in an interview and hinted this will probably be the last year he is with the Brewers. Now Brewers fans should not be too disappointed because actually this is a good thing. Milwaukee will be better with Fielder gone and here is why. First, the Brewers will save money on the cap and can direct it in other areas. Secondly, this also gives the Brewers a chance to see if Mat Gamel or others can step in and pick up the slack.

The Brewers will miss the production that Fielder gave them, but they will not miss his inconsistency in the clutch. For as good as Prince Fielder has been he has never been a clutch performer when the Brewers have needed him. This season he has been anything but clutch, so losing him in my opinion will not be as bad as many people think.

Many times you have to make changes and the change at first in reality will be good for the Brewers. It may not seem like it right now, but over the long haul it will be. It's time Brewers fans look towards the future and Fielder should not be in those plans.

Is It Time For Ozzie To Go In Chicago?

The Chicago White Sox continue there free fall and many people are wondering if the players have tuned out Ozzie Guillen. Is it time for Ozzie to go? Many people seem to think so and it is interesting that you have not heard any players step up to defend their manager much in the media. The White Sox have been getting beaten badly at times and that never bodes well for the manager.

Ozzie Guillen has been a very good manager for the White Sox, but maybe a change is needed. Sometimes players start to tune out a manager and that is what I think is happening to Ozzie. His players have grown tired of his antics and do not listen to him much anymore. The White Sox are talented and should be playing better baseball then they are right now.

This could be the last time we see Ozzie in a Chicago White Sox uniform as I expect him to be fired at season's end. I do not see how you can keep a guy where the players do not seem to perform well for him. Even when a team is losing they play hard, and at times you do not see that from the White Sox. A sad end it looks like for a guy who loves to manage the Chicago White Sox.

Pirates Grab Their 19th Straight Losing Season With Loss To St. Louis

The Pittsburgh Pirates have clinched their 19th consecutive losing a record for a major league franchise in North America. The Pirates looked like 2011 would be different for them as on July 20 the Pirates were 51-44 and led the NL Central by a half-game. Since that time though the Pirates have gone 16-38 since, and at 67-82 are ensured of another sub.-500 record.

Pirates fans deserve better, but another losing season will go into the books for them. I really thought this would be the year they broke the string, but it will not happen this year. Clint Hurdle had them playing well for awhile, but it is the Pirates and apparently losing continues to be a tradition with them.

Mariano Rivera Notches His 600th Save

No matter what anyone tells you 600 saves is a big milestone even if Mariano Rivera does not want to admit to it. Not many people in baseball history can claim 600 saves. In fact, only Rivera and Trevor Hoffman can actually make that claim. Rivera has been a model of consistency for the Yankees and he will tie Hoffman's record of 601 probably the next time he pitches. Rivera is a lock for the Hall Of Fame and may go down as the best reliever ever in the game of baseball.

Most Saves In MLB History

Trevor Hoffman 601
Mariano Rivera 600
Lee Smith 478
John Franco 424
Billy Wagner 422

Texas Longhorns Make A Change At Quarterback

It seems the love affair with Garrett Gilbert was short lived as he is now on the bench while Case McCoy Colt McCoy's younger brother and David Ash will handle the quarterback duties for the Longhorns. Gilbert threw two interceptions against BYU and was booed by the home crowd. Gilbert had a decent season last year, but it seems for now he will be on the bench for the Texas Longhorns. Another change is Freshman Malcolm Brown is listed as the starting tailback after leading Texas in rushing the first two games.

Mack Brown is a guy who wants to keep his job and he knows that unless Texas gets wins and move up the rankings he could be looking for a new job. Longhorn fans want results and if Brown cannot get them they will bring someone else in. Case McCoy and David Ash are young, but Brown is hoping they can get the job done for the Longhorns. If not this could be Mack Brown's last year as Texas Longhorn coach.

Michael Jordan Gets 100,000 Fine For Sharing His Opinion

Michael Jordan has learned as a owner you have to follow certain rules even if your name is Michael Jordan. The NBA fined Michael Jordan $100,000 for public comments he made last month about the lockout and one of the league's players, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. I really think this is stupid, but it's the NBA and rules are rules I guess.

In an Aug. 19 interview with The Herald Sun, a newspaper in Australia, the Charlotte Bobcats owner spoke extensively about the need for revenue sharing and mentioned Milwaukee Bucks' Australian center Andrew Bogut. I think Jordan has learned his lesson and while their is a lockout look for him to keep quiet on any NBA subject. He can afford the 100,000, but I am sure he is not happy about it.

What We Learned About The Phillies And Brewers This Weekend

The Milwaukee Brewers have one of the best home records in baseball and this past weekend they welcomed the Philadelphia Phillies to Miller Park. Philadelphia has been the most consistent baseball team this season and they proved it again this weekend. The Phillies went in and took three out of four from the Milwaukee Brewers. In fact, the Brewers got lucky they did not get swept by the Phillies.

What did we learn from this series? Both teams have good starting pitching, but Philadelphia is just a little bit better. Milwaukee has some good hitters, but the Phillies hitters performed in the clutch the Brewers did not. Both teams are talented, but over time the Phillies have proven they can beat anyone almost anywhere. The Milwaukee Brewers are still a team trying to learn how to do that. It looks right now the Phillies are still the best until someone proves different. This past weekend the Brewers found out just how good the Phillies are.
